You don't need to "age gracefully"

By Melinda Croning

Looking younger and well rested is what we all want. By using skin treatments and injectables, plastic surgeons help patients avoid surgery and still regain their youthful appearance. Non-invasive cosmetic procedures appeal to those patients who want to improve their appearance without the risk of complications or recovery time needed with more invasive plastic surgery treatments.

Not that long ago it was seen to be embarrassing to admit to having cosmetic surgery of any kind but in today's world things have changed so dramatically that everyone freely admits that they have had cosmetic surgery. One of the fastest growing areas of plastic surgery is non-surgical procedures. Non-invasive procedures target the problematic areas of the face and body that may make you look old and tired. These procedures are very effective in the short term, although the results are often temporary.

For a variety of reasons, patients may choose non-invasive alternatives over surgery. First of all, most of these treatments are very affordable. While surgery may be out of your budget, injectables or surface treatments are relatively inexpensive. Secondly, there is little to no downtime needed for recovery. It can be difficult to get time off of work, as those of us with jobs know all too well. Most of these procedures are done in very little time at the office and patients are able to immediately return to their normal routine. And then there is the safety factor and the reduced risk. This type of cosmetic procedure presents very few complications as compared to surgery. And if you do not like the results, they do wear off with time.

The two main types of non-invasive procedures include injectables and surface treatments. Typically, injectables are used to plump up the face in an effort to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Surface treatments, like laser treatment and chemical peels, reduce wrinkles. Botox is the most popular non-invasive treatment choice for patients. A purified, natural protein, it is injected into the brow area where facial lines and wrinkles exist.

Physicians use it to smooth the lines between your brows that develop over time - those deep, persistent lines. The facial muscles that cause those lines to form will relax for up to four months with only a few tiny injections. Within days, the apparent results are dramatic. Even better is the fact that patients can go back to normal activity almost immediately after receiving the injections.

Facial fillers are used to plump the skin and replace volume that is lost due to the natural process of aging. These injectables restore the youthful contour of your face and smooth wrinkles.

Laser treatments help reduce the signs of aging, and are another popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure. One procedure that smooths the facial skin and in some cases, can improve the firmness of skin, is called laser skin resurfacing.

To even out skin tone affected by age, sun damage, or acne, a chemical peel is used. This procedure creates younger, smoother skin by using a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of your skin. The look of sun-damaged skin can be improved, as well as wrinkles, freckles, scars, and fine lines.

Cosmetic procedures are varied. Evidently, there are many ways to make you feel more beautiful and look younger. You no longer have to break the bank to get your own treatment - good news.
